The VII Academy is working to diversify photography and journalism by funding tuition-free long-form visual media education in underrepresented communities worldwide. Our work includes funding 3-9-month-long media courses online, from Boston to Vanuatu by way of Mosul and Dhaka to train a new generation of visual journalists, and funding post-graduate scholarships to train a new generation of teachers. We teach in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Serbo-Croat, and Russian. We train and support men and women working under severe conditions, such as asylum seekers in Bosnia, and photographers in Myanmar. With The VII Foundation, we provide online education and advanced professional learning available to anyone with an internet connection through VII Insider.
VII Academy organizes and supports a wide variety of dynamic and intensive educational experiences in different regions with a diverse group of photographers. All of our programs are completely free of charge, and are provided for students from the majority world and underrepresented communities in G20 countries.
To adapt to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we operate our core 12-week seminars online. We also support a limited number of scholarships to VII photo agency workshops and seminars, and work with other partners to organize programs in underrepresented communities across the world.
