2020 Scholarship Application – Terms and Conditions

ELIGIBILITY:

The VII Academy schol­ar­ships for the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop are open to work­ing pho­tog­ra­phers or visu­al jour­nal­ism stu­dents who are try­ing to fur­ther their edu­ca­tion and pro­fes­sion­al skills.

Volunteers, employ­ees and direc­tors of The VII Academy and The VII Foundation and their imme­di­ate fam­i­lies are NOT eli­gi­ble to apply for fund­ing dur­ing the time that they are work­ing for these orga­ni­za­tions. Advisory board mem­bers and their imme­di­ate fam­i­lies are NOT eli­gi­ble to apply for fund­ing dur­ing the time that they are involved with the orga­ni­za­tions. Scholarship appli­ca­tion judges, and their imme­di­ate fam­i­lies, are NOT eli­gi­ble to apply for fund­ing in the year that judges help choose recip­i­ents.

Only those sub­mis­sions that meet the eli­gi­bil­i­ty require­ments and include all required mate­ri­als will be con­sid­ered for entry.

REQUIREMENTS OF SCHOLARSHIP WINNER(S) AND FINALIST(S):

By sub­mit­ting an appli­ca­tion, schol­ar­ship appli­cants agree to be ful­ly and uncon­di­tion­al­ly bound to these Terms and Conditions.

The VII Academy schol­ar­ship pro­gram will be admin­is­tered in accor­dance with all applic­a­ble laws, rules and reg­u­la­tions includ­ing, but not lim­it­ed to, those pro­mul­gat­ed by the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Scholarship recip­i­ents retain all copy­rights to their work. Obligations of schol­ar­ship recip­i­ents are as fol­lows:

Scholarship recip­i­ents agree to grant royalty-free licens­es for his/her schol­ar­ship work to The VII Academy and The VII Foundation for pos­si­ble exhi­bi­tion and/or pub­li­ca­tion (no guar­an­tees are made for pub­li­ca­tion or exhi­bi­tion) of such work in con­nec­tion with this pro­gram; for edu­ca­tion­al and/or com­mu­ni­ty out­reach pur­pos­es, includ­ing les­son plans; and, in addi­tion to his or her like­ness, for pub­lic­i­ty and press pur­pos­es by The VII Academy, The VII Foundation, and The VII Photo Agency relat­ed to this pro­gram. Any pho­to­graph so used by The VII Academy, The VII Foundation, and The VII Photo Agency will car­ry the photographer’s credit/copyright line.

Scholarship appli­cants waive the right to claim any dam­ages what­so­ev­er, includ­ing, but not lim­it­ed to, puni­tive, con­se­quen­tial, direct, or indi­rect dam­ages. The VII Academy, The VII Foundation, The VII Photo Agency and their respec­tive affil­i­ates, offi­cers, direc­tors, employ­ees and agents do not have and will not have any lia­bil­i­ty what­so­ev­er for, and shall be held harm­less against, any lia­bil­i­ty for any ill­ness, injuries, loss­es, death, lit­i­ga­tion, claim or dam­ages of any kind to per­sons or prop­er­ty result­ing in or in part, direct­ly or indi­rect­ly, whether caused by neg­li­gence or not, from accep­tance, pos­ses­sion, mis­use or use of any schol­ar­ship.

Should a court of law find The VII Academy, The VII Foundation or The VII Photo Agency liable for loss or dam­age, their total lia­bil­i­ty will be lim­it­ed to the amount of the schol­ar­ship, and in no event shall they be liable for attorney’s fees.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANT PRIVACY NOTICE:

It will be nec­es­sary for The VII Academy and The VII Foundation to col­lect appli­cants‘ per­son­al data in order to admin­is­ter and man­age this schol­ar­ship pro­gram, includ­ing but not lim­it­ed to pro­cess­ing the schol­ar­ship appli­ca­tions, keep­ing schol­ar­ship appli­cants informed about the schol­ar­ship pro­gram, and mak­ing schol­ar­ship dis­tri­b­u­tions. The types of per­son­al data we col­lect for this schol­ar­ship pro­gram include each applicant’s name, affil­i­at­ed business/school name, email address, tele­phone num­ber, postal address, and oth­er infor­ma­tion request­ed in the appli­ca­tion form.  The VII Academy and The VII Foundation only col­lect per­son­al data vol­un­tar­i­ly sub­mit­ted by schol­ar­ship appli­cants. Personal data sub­mit­ted by schol­ar­ship appli­cants will only be used to admin­is­ter and man­age this schol­ar­ship pro­gram, and for The VII Academy and The VII Foundation’s inter­nal use such as per­form­ing mar­ket­ing stud­ies, research projects, and pro­gram devel­op­ment.

The VII Academy and The VII Foundation will not share, sell, or rent per­son­al data sub­mit­ted by schol­ar­ship appli­cants to any third par­ties for their pro­mo­tion­al use or for mar­ket­ing pur­pos­es, except in the event a third par­ty ven­dor is act­ing as an agent of The VII Academy and The VII Foundation for oper­a­tional sup­port in con­nec­tion with the schol­ar­ship pro­gram.

The VII Academy and The VII Foundation’s prin­ci­ple place of busi­ness is in the United States. If the schol­ar­ship appli­cant is sub­mit­ting the appli­ca­tion from out­side the United States, your infor­ma­tion will be trans­ferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where The VII Foundation’s servers are locat­ed, and you agree to such cross-boarder trans­fers of per­son­al data.

The VII Academy and The VII Foundation are com­mit­ted to pro­tect­ing per­son­al data from loss, mis­use, alter­ation, and unau­tho­rized access and takes rea­son­able pre­cau­tions to safe­guard the con­fi­den­tial­i­ty of per­son­al data, includ­ing phys­i­cal access con­trols to our premis­es, use of pass­words for access to our sys­tems, use of encryp­tion when appro­pri­ate, and use of anti-virus soft­ware. Although The VII Academy and The VII Foundation make every effort to pro­tect the infor­ma­tion you pro­vide to us, the trans­mis­sion of infor­ma­tion between appli­cants to us over the inter­net is not com­plete­ly secure. As such, The VII Academy and The VII Foundation can­not guar­an­tee the secu­ri­ty of per­son­al data trans­mit­ted over the inter­net noth­wi­s­tand­ing the high lev­el of pro­tec­tion under­gone. SCHOLARSHIP DISTRIBUTION AND DEADLINES:

For this tuition-only schol­ar­ship, recip­i­ents will not receive any mon­ey, but rather will be invit­ed to attend a work­shop. For trav­el reim­burse­ments, unless oth­er­wise arranged before­hand, you’ll receive a reim­burse­ment dur­ing the work­shop for the pre-approved amount. You must pro­vide an invoice, and receipts and proof of trav­el. If you do not know how to cre­ate an invoice, please email [email protected]oundryphotoworkshop.org for a tem­plate.

Recipients must sub­mit the high-resolution images, text, and/or video pro­duced dur­ing the work­shop or event to The VII Academy with­in 1 week of the end of the work­shop or event.

Scholarship recip­i­ents are respon­si­ble for report­ing the schol­ar­ship for tax pur­pos­es as required by applic­a­ble law.
