BOLD Civic Engagement Workshop

Workshop in Sarajevo — February 17, 2020 until February 21, 2020

The VII Academy with the sup­port of the US Embassy is run­ning a year long pro­gram in fact-based writ­ing, pho­tog­ra­phy, and mul­ti­me­dia sto­ry­telling, draw­ing par­tic­i­pants from men and women from all com­mu­ni­ties in Bosnia and Herzegovina to encour­age and improve civic dis­course. Some of the world’s lead­ing jour­nal­ists, aca­d­e­mics and pub­lic intel­lec­tu­als from Harvard University, Northeastern University and the VII Photo Agency will pro­vide insight, men­tor­ing and train­ing to tack­le the fraught and com­plex issues impor­tant to the diverse com­mu­ni­ties liv­ing in the Bosnia. The pro­gram empha­sizes an eth­i­cal, col­lab­o­ra­tive and par­tic­i­pa­to­ry approach to jour­nal­is­tic prac­tice and dia­logue. VII Academy Sarajevo in part­ner­ship with the US Embassy in Sarajevo will award a num­ber of grants in the amount of $30,000 to the best BOLD project pro­pos­als in 2020. Details

This pro­gram is offered tuition-free to select­ed appli­cants. Accommodation in Sarajevo, per diems, and trav­el to and from Sarajevo are also includ­ed. All oth­er expens­es incurred will be the respon­si­bil­i­ty of the stu­dent.

The VII Academy is pleased to support four students with scholarships to attend this women-only workshop, which focuses on cultivating your own authentic voice through narrative and documentary practice. From idea to publication, participants will work on personal photographic projects that will be reviewed and critiqued in an interactive online environment by Nichole and Anush over a 10-week period.
